Piquet's remarks were made last year, but the actual depth of the situation was only known just a couple of days ago. After a massive condemnation of his comments by the public, the Brazilian clarified that he did not mean to offend Hamilton.
It is found out that the word Neguinho is also commonly used for either black or white people. The word is usually used to greet friends, and the meaning of it depends on the situation. It gets offensive on some occasions and normal on others.
On June 28, 2022, Lewis Hamilton posted on Twitter that he condemns the archaic mindsets in sports. "I've been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn." He wrote, "Time has come for action."
